5 Different Boudoir Themes To Choose From…

Boudoir defines itself by being photography FOR the person in the photo; in fact, it revolves around being meaningful for the person in the photo - it’s what makes Boudoir the uniquely body positive art that it is. That’s why there are so many different styles you can explore too; there are as many styles as there are personal preferences. Even though, out of habit, your mind may drift to the classic Boudoir style of lingerie and glamorous rooms; there are countless other ideas and looks we can go for. Every single experience we create is tailored to the individual and we’ve done everything from Pole Dancing inspired Boudoir to Hollywood Glamour, festival inspired, cowboy themed, spiritual nudes…and much much more. So, with that in mind, we just wanted to use this blog to introduce you to a few other ideas that may pique your interest.

Classic Glam

Let’s go for the one that everyone tends to think of first. Classic Glam Boudoir is popular for a reason; it’s feminine, it’s powerful, it’s timeless - and it makes you feel beautiful. Obviously different interpretation and different personal preference will bring variety with it but by “classic glam” we tend to mean the style in which you’d be wearing (typically lacy) lingerie and heels, and be using things like our chaise lounge and dressing table. It’s a brilliant style for Boudoir beginners because it’s a classic for a reason; it’s sexy, sensual and it makes you feel amazing. Plus, we know that your first Boudoir Experience can be quite nerve-wracking and often people are more than happy to led by our expertise - it takes some of the pressure off you - and, plus, just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean there’s not room to bring in personal touches - for example, bring in your favourite book or wear jewellery that really means something to you.

Kinky

We’re a Boudoir Studio - you don’t have to spare our blushes. Sex and feeling sexual is important for a lot of people, and this is a space to embrace your body AND your sexuality. So if you find yourself drawn to BDSM or more erotic inspired shoots, we’d love to hear your ideas. We know that it can be an incredibly empowering and freeing experience to fully express that side of yourself and, in some cases, escape the day-to-day and step into feeling like someone different for a day. It’s incredible to give space to that side of yourself. We have lots of things that you could use like chains, handcuffs, riding crops and more - but please feel free to bring in your own things and we welcome kinkier outfits too! (As a note, we’re happy to push our boundaries - but we do stick to the rule of “nude but never rude”!)

Girl Next Door

This is the perfect style for anyone who wants to go for a more casual, cheeky and subtle look. If the “Girl Next" Door” style appeals to you, it’s great to bring in things like a slouchy jumper that can suggestively hang off your shoulders or maybe some more casual underwear, like the Calvin Klein or Lounge style! It’s a really amazing look for anyone who wants to feel sexy and feminine whilst still feeling more “suggestive” rather than overtly sexual. It’s a more effortless and candid look and we really adore it.

Spiritual

We were introduced to this style by a beautiful client whose life was incredibly influenced by spirituality. It was a really essential part of her and, as such, it was a really important part to connect with in her experience. She brought in her crystals which meant something to her, and we also used fabrics and movement to create quite an ephemeral and divine feeling to the shoot. Since then, we’ve had more and more women who have used this experience to connect with their body in quite a spiritual way, especially in nude portraiture. They’ve found that honouring their body like this has been incredibly moving - and a way to celebrate their body in quite an earthy and stripped back, natural way. We’ve incorporated the influence of yoga, meditation and dance into their shoots and found that often it’s an amazing way to embody and capture this goddess like spirit that all women have.

Shower Inspired

This is a new style that we have recently introduced and we absolutely LOVE it! It’s steamy, sexy - and, for want of better word, it is just so hot. It has this “at home” feel to it whilst still using all the magic of a studio shoot in the fact it has such potential for creating such professional, artistic looking shots by capturing the light reflecting off the water droplets, or the way that water drips across the skin. It’s really truly stunning. You can either do this shoot nude and/or bring in a white vest style top that you don’t mind getting wet. We’ll put some examples below so you can take a look!

Enjoy reading that? We hope you did! We hope it introduced you to a few different styles too; there are so many more as well to tell you about so we’ll posting a new blog next in which we continue to describe a few more styles!

In between then, we’ve created a quiz which may help you figure out which style you love best. It’s not a totally serious quiz, but it is fun to do!
