Are You A Dove, A Peacock, Owl or Eagle? How We Use Personality Quizzes To Help Our Divas!

If I sat you down and told you that I was a dove, you’d probably start questioning my sanity.

Well, you don’t have to worry, I’m not imagining white feathers sprouting out my arms. What I’m talking about is the ‘Bird Personality’ test. Have you ever heard of it?

It was developed by Richard M. Stephenson who developed the test ‘based on the original four personality types formulated by Dr. Gary Couture.’

It’s less so a psychological exam, and a more a way to better understand yourself and how you interact with the world. Richard M.Stephenson talks about using the results of the test as a way to ‘grow your self confidence and motivation by understanding yourself and those around you’.

But how is it relevant to us, a photography studio? We first came across it on a photography training course where we were taught how best to emotionally connect and bring out the very best in our Divas. As we’ve said a million times, our focus is very much on having a long-term positive change, and we can only do that if we truly grasp who you are and what is important to you in a personal, human way. So, along came the Bird Personality test!

It’s not a way to categorise people at all as we’re never just one ‘bird personality’ all the time, however we do tend to have a dominant type and, by knowing this, we can better understand what people are likely to need and desire from us. One thing we’re always so proud of is how many people write that they felt so comfortable with us and, consequently, felt able to push themselves out of their comfort zones. This doesn’t come about out of chance! Things like caring about personality types, alongside other things, all help make the experience what it is.

So, want to know more? Just scroll below to read about what the different personality types are, and please do take our very own Boudoir-inspired bird personality quiz to see not only what your bird type is, but how that relates to Boudoir!

DOVE: PEACEFUL AND FRIENDLY

Doves are people who tend to be strongly motivated by their care and love for other people. They think first of the desires of other people, and then they think of themselves. They thrive in caring, nurturing roles (hence why you find a lot of ‘doves’ in the healthcare industry.) They have an innate drive to be helpful and seek to create harmony. They’re loyal, loving and resilient. The flip side of this is that they struggle to prioritise themselves and can find it difficult to place belief in their own thoughts and feelings!

OWL: WISE AND LOGICAL

Owls are the planners, the researchers, the people who ask ‘what, who, why, when, how?’. They are the people who are detail orientated, highly capable, and process-led. You’ll often find them in admin or organisational roles. It’s not that they’re not spontaneous, but they find comfort in a framework and guidelines. If you’re an owl, you’re also likely to love delivering high quality results. You’ll also be able to pick up on things that others miss and you’ll be a fantastically calm communicator. Owls aren’t looking for a spotlight, but sometimes this organised persona can lead to owls to feeling like not many people SEE the more fun, wilder side… which is why Boudoir tends to be a fantastic outlet!

PEACOCK: OPTIMISTIC AND EXTROVERTED

Peacocks are loud, bold and FUN. They are the easiest to spot and love being in a crowd; in fact, they thrive when they have the attention of others. It’s not about selfishness or vanity though, because they’re also natural born cheerleaders. They know how to build an energy in a room, how to make people laugh; they are creative, idea-driven, vocal people and they are well-loved. The downside can just be that people misunderstand their outgoingness as arrogance when, in reality, often peacocks are more ‘faking it till they make it’ rather than being arrogant, which

SWAN: TRANSFORMED AND INSPIRED

These are the fighters. The people who have gone on long, and often rough, journeys but are beginning to come out the other side. They have a positive spirit and are ready to build the life they want for themselves. Swans are often people who are recently starting to re-connect or discover a side of themselves, often after a major life change. These are the people who are finding their feet in the world of confidence. Swans are inspirational people; the challenge can sometimes just be making sure that the focus stays on the positive rather than the negative and swans may find that they need cheerleaders alongside them to keep their perspectives and goals clear.

EAGLE: BOLD AND DECISIVE

Nine times out of ten, you will find eagles in management or high-powered roles. They are the leaders and take no crap. They talk directly, are straight-forward and like feeling powerful in the room. They are goal driven, know what they’re looking for and love new opportunities. They are incredibly hard-working and capable people. The only thing is that sometimes they can come across as stand-offish, which isn’t entirely fair. They just know what they are willing to settle for. The other thing is that, what with eagles so often being the one in control, they tend to find it hard to give up responsibility and, dare we say it, show vulnerability - despite personally feeling a need to connect with perhaps a softer, more emotional side.
