“I Wanted To Let The Real Me Out”

Every woman who comes to us for a Boudoir Shoot has an incredible story. The motivations and reasons behind doing Boudoir are diverse and, most often, hugely profound within their life. It’s our privilege that we get to be part of these women’s stories.

This is Jessie, we loved her enthusiasm and her creativity. It was our pleasure to bring her visions to life!

Tell us about yourself?

I’m short, overweight and have a random unladylike dress sense.  At least that’s what my bullies told me for 23 years.

In fact for 23 years I’d suppressed the real me, to try and be who my peers wanted me to be. Which left me feeling suffocated and without a future. However, it turns out, that though, yes, I am 5 ft 4 inches and yes I’m not a size 6 and yes I have a different taste to my peers – but that doesn’t make me ugly, a freak or weird. Despite what those around me wanted me to believe.

More importantly, I am a photographer, a chicken mummy, a travel enthusiast and an entrepreneur.

What inspired you to have a Boudoir session?

I was 8 months into recovery when I saw the opportunity advertised – originally as free.  I just applied on a whim because it was free and then I reconsidered as I realised the products afterwards would cost.

4 months later I hadn’t forgotten about it.  Only this time I was ready to pay for the shoot (I did get a package deal) and I wanted to let the real me out!

How did you first become aware of Divine Divas?

I think someone shared the link about having a free photo shoot – and then it kept coming up in my feed.

What was your biggest fear before coming in?

The unknown.  Not knowing my photographer and not knowing if I could actually look good/beautiful in photos.

How did you feel when you arrived at the studio?

Pumped! A little bit jittery but very excited.  Slightly mortified that I hadn’t ordered some of the lingerie that I thought I had – so was having to make do with some other stuff.

What was your favourite thing about being pampered and having your hair and makeup done?

It’s the first time the attention has been solely on me! And I didn’t have to do a thing!

Who was your photographer? Neill, Jesse or Emilie?

The glorious Emilie!

How would you describe the photo-shoot to others?

Something you absolutely must do.  A massive confidence booster.  A complete and utter luxury pampering session even if you do pay for it yourself! Provided by the most amazing and professional team.

When you came back for the viewing, how did you feel seeing yourself?

Very pleasantly surprised.  Couldn’t believe how long I looked in one of the shots!

What was your favourite part of the Boudoir Experience?

Having fun with Emilie!!  We just had such a giggle!

Do you feel any different about yourself since having your boudoir shoot?

Yes, I feel a lot more body confident and have actually been having requests for modelling. I’ve already attended 1 and have another 2 to go.

What would you say to other women considering a boudoir session?

DO IT! You might be nervous before but you will totally forget all that on the day.

And last question! We absolutely loved the different themes in your shoot! Can you tell us where you got the inspiration from?

Hard to say – I’ve always loved very regal uniforms and when I saw the Grenadiers jacket in Covent Garden I knew I finally had to purchase one.  I’ve always been into hats. I did google burlesque and get idea’s from that and if I had my chance again I’d want a topless shot with jeans/dungarees and my cowboy hat and boots. The Cowboy theme was one I’d been bullied for for ages so it was important to me to be able to show it. I used to play the violin so when Harriet mentioned an instrument on the phone that sprung to mind.  I  think a trumpet or sax would be cool too!

Thank you Jessie for sharing your story! Do you want to tell us about your Boudoir? Just let us know! We’d love to hear from you.
